Fresh Expressions Pioneer Communities help you discover how to begin fresh expressions of church for your context.
These year-long part-time learning communities train pioneering Christian leaders—both clergy and laity—in a way that is highly practical and theologically grounded.
The communities begin with a three-day workshop that allows space for teaching, learning and spiritual growth and theological reflection.
Throughout the course of the year, participants receive personal coaching. A team of people from the same geographic area or community will also receive personalized coaching and training sessions in the communities where they are beginning the fresh expression of church.
Through Jesus, God is restoring all things.
The message hasn’t changed.
But the world has.
Fresh Expressions Pioneer Communities are a unique learning experience for people who want to discover new forms of being church.
The next community begins with a three-day workshop on February 27-March 1 at Roslyn Retreat Center in Richmond, Virginia. Coaching and other contextual ministry appointments will be planned in consultation with participants in the community. The closing pioneer retreat is October 16-18.
You will explore:
- How the world is changing
- Why the Church struggles to adapt to changing culture
- How established churches can become mission-shaped, exploring fresh ways of being church
- How pioneering leaders work in collaboration with existing churches to bring fresh expressions of church to life
Since 2004, Fresh Expressions has helped established churches throughout the UK create thousands of new expressions of church. In 2014, extensive research from 518 of these fresh expressions of church showed the active involvement of over 20,000 people, 80% of whom were not part of a Christian community before their involvement with fresh expressions of church.
Since 2011, our US-based Fresh Expressions team has worked with the UK team to train leaders for fresh expressions of church here in the US.

Cost
$750 per participant (register today and bring a friend for $600)
Cost includes all training, materials, and retreat lodging, snacks, and meals. Fresh Expressions US is subsidizing the cost of this initial pioneer community to keep costs low.
Additional scholarships are available for member churches of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. (Additional scholarships may be available through your denomination or church).
